About the Small Animal Imaging Facility
Home About Instruments/Services Scheduling Fees Applications Resources The Small Animal Imaging Facility is maintained by the Tufts University's Department of Physiology and the Division of Laboratory Animal Medicine with support from the Tufts Medical Center and Tufts University School of Medicine. The facility was established to provide cutting-edge animal imaging technologies to biomedical researchers at Tufts University and affiliated hospitals, and to foster scientific collaboration among these and other investigators at institutions and companies in the Boston area.
Current imaging technologies offered by the facility are optically based. Optical imaging equipment includes a Xenogen IVIS 200 Biophotonic Imager, a Xenogen 3D Imager, a Mauna Kea Cellvizio Fiber Optic Microscope and a Leica MZ-FLIII Stereo Fluorescence Microscope. These instruments are designed primarily for imaging light emitted from live animals but can also be used for a variety of other purposes. Instrumentation based on other imaging modalities (i.e., computed tomography (CT) and ultrasound) will be added in the near future. Investigators requiring animal imaging for their research should contact the facility director to express their needs and interests.
The Facility is directed by Dr. Gary Sahagian. The Facility is located in Room 815A of the Stearns Building and is accessible from 136 Harrison Avenue via the M&V or Stearns elevators. Dr. Sahagian can be reached by phone at (617)636-6748 or by email at gary.sahagian@tufts.edu.
